“I don’t care what lies outside. My vision is within. Here is where the birds sing. Here is where the sky is blue.” (Room with a View, EM Forster, Mr Emerson)
I love this quote from “Room with a View”. If you don’t fancy reading the book, perhaps take a look at the film directed by James Ivory. You might enjoy the Tuscan views. It is also packed with great actors. Denholm Elliott delivers this line in the film with great passion when he is explaining to Maggie Smith and Helen Bonham Carter why he is happy to give them his room with views of Florence.
This quote highlights one of my beliefs, that happiness come from within. It embodies the spirit of what singingbluebird is all about.
I also find that my surroundings or environment are important too. I was lucky enough to recently travel across New Zealand, and the colours and scenery there are breath-taking. I journeyed around in a camper van, and each bend in the road brought into view a new sight to take my breath away. In particular, I found the blues and greens to be really vibrant. Below is a photo which includes Lake Hawea, a lake covering an area of 141square kms.
I had my own room with a view, well a camper van with a view!
So, I agree with EM Forster, my vision and happiness comes from within, but I can also be inspired by the beauty around me, and I don’t have to go to New Zealand to find that. Spring is just around the corner, and I am looking forward to seeing more colour in the UK. Anything but grey is fine with me!
